At the foot of the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, the women of the village of Boulmane have been weaving this flat kilim rug for three centuries using wool from their own sheep. Each symbol is an act of memory: a red diamond for fertility, a blue ladder for protection, and a golden dot for shared joy.
Spun with a drop spindle and dyed in copper vats using madder, wild indigo, and rhubarb, the wool retains the scent of burning thyme and the sound of the streams that accompany the weaving process.
